Putting Buddha in the Boardroom
I’m happy to share with you some of the inspiring teachings that the
readings have exposed me to in the last month.
In particular, the guides have been working with people on what it means
to live a ‘spiritual’ life. Many of us have had powerful, sometimes
mystical, interventions, such as workshops, regressions or near death
experiences, and thereafter seek to live a life of purpose and growing
awareness. In itself, that is an honoured and beautiful choice.
Yet some of the attitudes and behaviours I see in many of us - as a
result of this choice to live ‘spiritually’ - are decidedly limiting. A
common area of life that this shows up in is the area of career.
The most common question asked in personal channellings is ‘Should I
leave my job for something more meaningful and spiritual’? Many people
on the planet at this time are beginning to value meaning above
materialism and growth above greed. What a potentially significant and
beautiful shift in consciousness!
Yet, what is vital to see, is that it is not a job that allows us to
make that shift in consciousness, it is the way we are within a job. In
other words, as always, it is more important to look at our state of
being than our state of doing.
Consider for yourself the possibility that someone who earns her living
from doing reiki, social aid work (or anything else that you may think
of as more spiritual than what you do now), may well do so holding an
internal attitude of self-righteousness, resentment, deprivation or a
deep-seated belief that that is what she has to do to be worthy. Or, as
a result of that career, she has neither the resources nor the time to
be involved with her family or with her own growth. None of those states
of mind, or actions, benefit the planet at all!
In contrast to that, someone who spends her days giving financial advice
may do so in tremendous peace, knowing that she is empowering others and
experiencing herself as authentically powerful. Which of those people is
more spiritual? Is it really your job that allows you to bring divine
qualities such as joy and compassion to life, or is it the way you are
within any moment of any job?
If you find yourself currently working in an environment that you
experience as meaningless or totally commercial, I acknowledge the
frustration that can bring up. The fact that your dreams for yourself
and the world are more than simply consumerist is wonderful! Yet, before
quitting, my suggestions are:
1. Take a deep and honest look at yourself within your work space. What
is your regular state of mind there, what qualities are you contributing
to the environment?
2. With what judgments would you be leaving your job if you were to
leave it right now?
3. How do you imagine you will be in a job that is more meaningful or
spiritual? Think of a dream job and make a list! Do you imagine yourself
as more peaceful there? More creative, more loving?
4. How can you allow yourself to be that way right now in the job you
already have? Are there new actions you can take, higher interpretations
you can bring, more satisfying relationships you can create so that you
can already begin to be your dream?
A beautiful definition that was given in someone’s reading was this:
mastery is not moving to environments or relationships that you consider
more spiritual; mastery is shifting yourself so that you make your
environments or relationships more spiritual.
The beauty, and paradox, of this way of being is of course that, the
moment you raise your awareness within any environment, you
automatically attract towards you future opportunities that are also of
higher vibration! In other words, if you bring more of your real,
magnificent, self to the job you are in now, you will quite naturally
pull into your life an opportunity to do so even more. In that way, your
working life can only ever become more and more spiritual.
If you are clear that you are leaving a job in total peace – having seen
its gifts - and you are moving towards a new opportunity that is opening
naturally and does not need to be forced, then in all likelihood, you
are taking a step for your highest good.
Thank you to those of you whose readings have inspired these
understandings. May they serve you magnificently.
