What I am Learning From a Newborn Baby
Thanks to Daniel, born 13 February 2007, for reminding me that:
We can be utterly lovable even when totally dependent
When our tummies are empty, even the best of us get bad-tempered
There is no need to smile just because it would please someone else
Cuddles and kisses are as vital as air
Making our needs known clearly and immediately is the best way to get
them met
We can be totally dignified even if someone else has to change our nappy
The world around us is an exhilarating place to discover
Just because it’s 3am doesn’t mean we can’t be playful
There is no need to talk to convey deep love and connection
Tummies love to be licked
Without speaking, walking or doing a single thing, we still have a huge
influence on the world. Just our being here makes things different.
