Experience Truth

Rands and Sense

In this Bull’s Eye I want to take a look at a topic that brings many highly aware people to their knees. It’s a topic that can open up deep shame or deep guilt at its mention and many of us avoid even going there, rather like the dentist. Global warming? Genocide? Wife swopping?!

Nope, something a lot more everyday than that.

Money.

To say that generating money is something that confounds me, is an understatement. I mean, I’m an educated, polite, energetic, talented person who has taken the noble step of leaving a corporate job to do something more spiritual, why hasn’t the universe rewarded me with more money? Each week I ask my guides for the Lotto numbers, holding pure intentions for the money, and yet I haven’t ever seen a large cheque (or even a very tiny cheque) from Uthingo. I’m growing in awareness, contributing to the planet, doing service work….show me the money!!

Well, luckily for me, many of my clients have been asking the same questions recently, so I have had the chance to gain a slightly expanded perspective.

Here’s what I know so far:

1. Your relationship to money is more important than whatever you are trying to do to get it. If money was a person, how would you characterise your relationship – intimate, distant, evasive, hateful, obsessive, respectful? You can’t grow money if you don’t pay attention to it, if you think it is unspiritual / evil or if you believe you are not worthy of having it. Take a long, clear look at the relationship you have inherited and created about money and your beliefs about how you ‘should’ or ‘shouldn’t’ get it.

2. The flow of money is a wonderful communicator to you about deeper issues. When money seems to be blocked in some way within a relationship (he just won’t pay you back) or a job (there’s just no chance of a raise) or a pursuit (it’s great but it’s just not making money), then that is a sure sign that something else is blocked. Check what you are resisting, what you are avoiding, or what position you are being stuck on within that situation. Money, and especially the lack thereof, is a very useful instrument for gauging your own open-ness.

3. The point is not to store, but to be sustained. Most of us think that being wealthy means having a whole heap of moolah in the bank, or in investments so that we are insulated against life. Consider the consciousness of fear that informs that belief. Of course it can be wonderful to have money saved when you are doing so from a place of utter love, not insecurity, but it is not what you NEED. All you need is what this particular moment demands. When that is being met, and when you can see that, then you are wealthy. And when you can feel and carry yourself as if you are wealthy, then more wealth flows your way.

4. Making money is a symptom of joy, not a cause of it. Technically speaking, money flows to where there is high energy. When you are being passionate, excited, spontaneous, risking, free, then your energies are high and abundance (in whichever form) has to follow. There is no need to plan how to make money - do what you most, most love doing and, inevitably, you will be sustained. Not because you are being rewarded (the Universe is impartial, even to us nice people), but simply because like attracts like.

I know that, for me, the status of my bank account is directly AND DELIBERATELY (sneaky soul) related to my levels of trust in myself. When I am holding back on what I know and scared to express who I am in a bold fashion, it is reflected in (amongst other things) the amount of money I make.

What is it for you? Who is your financial flow encouraging you to be? You know the answer.

(And for those who don’t, I’ll sell it to you nice price….)
