June 2009

Hi everyone

Mid-year can seem almost as scary a thought as mid-life, unless you are getting so good at creating joy, that you feel neither regret nor urgency. The trick is that you become committed to bringing it, and not waiting for it show up in whatever form, be it a better body, new partner or improved economy. This idea of don’t wait, create came up very beautifully in a reading this month and I explore it a little further in the Bull’s Eye below called Life as a Dance.

I’ve been truly excited and inspired by the leaps being made by folk in my Spiritual Growth Clubs. Growing together, in honest, open communities, is fast-becoming recognised as the most powerful way to live and produce the results we want. More than that, with the very sad loss of baby Zach last month, I have been touched by the practical and life-changing ways in which growth clubs support each other through the highs and lows of love and loss. I will be starting another Johannesburg Spiritual Growth Club as soon as there are 8 to 10 people signed up, do contact Garrick for more information if you’d love a monthly session of inspiration, sharing and learning.

This month you might also like to come and play at the Vision Board Evening, uncover your top eight joys through the JoyMap process (JHB and Cape Town) or hear cutting-edge insight at the next Group Reading. I’m also delighted to welcome Jane Toerien to Johannesburg on 9 June. Jane created the Bird Cards (see www.birdcards.net), which have unquestionably been the most powerful oracle cards I have used, so I’m excited to offer you a one-night workshop where Jane will introduce them.

Welcome to all the new subscribers (in particular the feisty folk from the Marketing Managers Forum) – please feel free to provide feedback on the newsletter if you wish.

Much love

Angela

Life as a Dance

This analogy came up in someone’s reading (thank you!) and I have expanded and enhanced it here.

Consider being born into life as being placed into a dance studio. Like all studios this one has four walls, providing you with certain space, and also time, limitations. The studio represents duality. You can bemoan these limitations, you can fight against them and you can, indeed, leave the studio anytime you like - although if you bash down a wall to get out it will probably be more painful than waiting for the door to open in its own time. In actual fact the studio door opens more than once in your lifetime, but you will not always notice and will only walk through it when you truly choose so.

Mirrors cover every wall inside the studio and music plays, seemingly on its own, in a loud and powerful way. The mirrors represent the feedback, or reflections, to you from your environment. You can certainly choose to dance your dance – or live your life – with your eyes closed all the time. This will mean you do not see your own reflection, and that can seem as if it assists you to avoid pain. Sometimes it does. Yet you will never dance with full abandon or freedom if your eyes are closed because you will be fearful of getting hurt. So, paradoxically, in trying to avoid the pain of seeing yourself fully, you increase the chances of other kinds of pain, such as accidents, as well as the sharper pain of not dancing in your fullest joy.

You can also choose to dance with your eyes open and see yourself in the mirrors as you go along. This takes bravery, because you will not always see a reflection that you like. If that happens, it allows you the opportunity, simply, to choose again. To dance more and more authentically until you like how you feel when you look in the mirrors. While you are in this phase of your life, it is useful every now and again to close your eyes and give yourself a break from seeing your reflection. These are moments where you look inward, forget the world and its reflections, where you stop learning, stop improving and simply enjoy the blissful recognition that the dancer in the mirror is just a reflection and this dance studio is just a game of your own creation. Resting yourself in this way, every so often, rejuvenates and inspires you to continue creating a beautiful dance. If you become overly focused, or analytical, about the mirrors – in other words trying too hard to find the meaning in every reflection – you will forget to dance!

After you have respected and used the mirrors sufficiently to enhance your dance you will slowly, and naturally, begin to forget about them. At this stage you will be entirely focused on the joy of your own experience and will have become fully trusting of the feelings in your body to give you the feedback you need.

The music that is playing in the studio represents the circumstances in your life – what is happening ‘out there’. Sometimes a sad song plays, sometimes an exciting one, sometimes the song is to your taste, sometimes it is not. Sometimes you stop dancing when a song plays that you think you do not like. ‘Change the song!’ you shout and you stamp your feet or refuse to move until life brings you the exact circumstances (money, job, partner, government, state of health) that you presume will be in your best interests. You get more and more angry, or resigned, when you realize that neither resisting nor waiting succeeds in bringing on a song that you prefer. What can you do? You can dance anyway! You can begin to trust that you can create a beautiful dance (Self) even when it is a sad, or angry, or unsatisfying song playing at the time.

And do you know what the delicious secret is? When you begin to create grace, peace, beauty in your dancing - irrespective of the song that is playing – then you ‘tune yourself in’ to music of that nature and you begin to have an influence on the songs that are going to be played for you in your future! You will never be able to totally control the soundtrack of your life, and it is a waste of your precious energy to try to do so. Simply take note of the music and set yourself free to dance in your own sweet way. Even if your dance is full of grief, even if you are dancing to a song you never thought you could – don’t wait, create.

Just as with the mirrors, eventually you will not be obsessed with what music is playing. You will trust in your ability to dance, irrespective of the song. The music will fade into the background and you will focus your energy exclusively on dancing in the most magical way that you (not your culture, your religion, your family) can imagine. In this paradoxical, divine game, the studio, the mirrors and the music have seemed like your obstacles but have become your creative impetus.

So, dear friends, for now simply take light note of the song that is playing in your life right now, and the reflections that you are getting from the world and people around you - and use them to enhance your dance.

Personal Readings and Spiritual Coaching Sessions

A personal, or couple’s, reading is a session where I channel insight from your higher self about what is most dominant in your ‘field’ at that time. This can include patterns you are holding, some of your life themes, blockages in your body, the particular cycle you are in at the time or what thought patterns may be holding you back from feeling free. Usually there is an opportunity to ask specific questions if you wish to, but the reading will take on a particular direction or set of themes right from the start. The energy of these conversations is gentle, incredibly loving yet also full of humour and practical suggestions.

Time required: 1 to 1.5 hours
Cost: R550.00 in office hours

A baby blessing, which can be done at a baby shower or as a regular reading, is a conversation with an unborn child. They are normally shorter than an hour, though this depends very much on the chattiness of the child! Best time to have one is between 20 and 35 weeks pregnant.

A spiritual coaching session does not involve direct channelling. It is an opportunity for you to bring specific issues to the session, perhaps those that came up in a previous reading but not necessarily, and to work with my questions and ideas on these. I don’t follow a specific coaching methodology and will work with what comes up in the moment using discussion or physical movement or conscious dreaming or anything else that can move you forward. A warning: I’ve been heard to say ‘I couldn’t give a damn about your success…I’m only interested in your Joy’!

Time required: 50 minutes
Cost: R350.00

Contact Garrick on +27844608667 or via email if you are interested in booking a distance reading or a one-on-one session in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Bloemfontein or White River. A waiting period of 1 to 2 weeks can be expected.  Cape Town readings available from Thursday 11 June – Monday 15 June 2009.

Group Reading

You can download the latest group readings from our website to hear the kind of insight that is available in that environment. The March group reading starts off with a reminder about the significance of our attention and a suggestion to be aware and deliberate about what we do with it. The majority of the conversation after that focuses on the aspect of eating and food, with clear and radical information about becoming truly empowered in this area of our lives. The questions also deal with eating and open up even more detail about how to approach food in a free way. There is a third point raised about parenting and how to be 'responders' rather than initiators to our children.

Group readings usually convey a tremendous amount of information in a short space of time – I like to think of them as the espresso of my work – and are mostly attuned to what the particular members of the group or broader humanity are experiencing at the time. They are affordable and a good way to introduce newcomers to the beauty and value of channelling. There is often an opportunity to ask a personal question.  The cost of attending a group reading will remain unchanged at R100.00 for the third year running so that these events are as accessible as possible. Please note, however, that this is an attendance fee and the right to sell or distribute the information remains with Travelling Light.

Spiritual Growth Clubs

‘My experience in Angela’s support group has left me with a profound imprint. Her sincere interest for my highest good, combined with her facilitation skills transformed me at the workshop called JUMP. I recommend joining a support group if you are serious about your JOY. There are no hiding feelings and thoughts from Angela, she is skilled at finding your biggest fears and addressing them with a gentle touch’. Adele, Mind-Body Coach

An increasing number of people are committing themselves to conscious, responsible and empowered living. The number and variety of spiritual workshops and therapies attest to this. Yet, more is required to manifest awareness in action than just a once-off intervention. Personal transformation is a dynamic and ongoing process and requires consistent integration and support, whether that is in the form of honest feedback, access to new knowledge or motivation. Often we attempt, or feel we are forced, to pursue our spiritual development in isolation. Besides the fact that this reinforces a consciousness of separation, it can also leave us blinkered to our own stumbling blocks or gifts or next steps.

My popular Spiritual Growth Clubs provide a rare opportunity to walk your personal path in fellowship with like-minded people who are open to learning, sharing and growing as much as you are. They also come with expert facilitation and access to all the new insight with which I work.

JoyMap Workshop

In my experience, goal-setting exercises, are likely to fail for two reasons: Firstly, they are usually based on what you think you should do, rather than what you deeply want to do. In other words, the goals are set only from your head. Failure to sustain these resolutions breeds a sense of self-recrimination, your esteem drops and a cycle of subtle disappointment begins. Secondly, even when your goals are truly aligned with your joy, they may be unrealistic and difficult to integrate into your life as it is now. Why not do it differently and begin to sculpt your life – practically - from joy?
I have designed a number of unusual, innovative processes to assist you to see what you really want (which is notoriously difficult to do) and to find real, creative and achievable ways to integrate this into your current life with nothing needing to change.

One participants’ experience (click here for more personal stories)

I signed up for Angela's Joy Map workshop because it sounded like fun and the title was intriguing. At the end of that day I came to the shocking realization that my business, where I spent 80% of my time and energy, did not figure anywhere on my Joy Map! So if it wasn't bringing me joy and it certainly wasn't bringing me money, what on earth was I doing it for! In a gentle yet probing way Angela had us take a long hard look at what truly is joyful for us.
The result of that day was that I made a decision to close my business and that decision has made me feel freer and more joyful than I ever expected it to! The workshop gave me the precious gift of clarity and insight into what truly brings my Soul joy and I shall forever be grateful to Angela for guiding me to this space. A space where I am filled with excitement, anticipation and joy!!! I had asked for a sign about the way forward and boy, did I get it with this very profound workshop. Thanks doll!!! Love Di

Mid-Year Vision Board

Most of you know that the way I approach vision boarding is much less about ‘cut out and stick the stuff you want to get’ and much more about what certain patterns, colours and images reveal to you about your pure desires at any point in time.

I invite you to a special, mid-year Vision Board experience that will offer you the blissful chance to spend a few hours immersed ONLY in your joys, and then to receive a personal reading of your board by me. In this particular experience, for the first time, I will be using music very deliberately and specifically to open up new pathways of attraction.

Separate Togetherness

I work with a number of couples in my practice and friendship circles that are looking for new ways of having intimate partnerships - ones which are based on ‘wild love’ and real (not token) freedom rather than the more typical model of co-dependency and ‘blaming, shaming or taming’ (Gill Edwards). But there are few role models of such partnerships and most of us default to what we learned in our own childhood homes, especially when we are tired, overwhelmed or scared.

My Separate Togetherness workshop is for 10 people (5 couples) who are committed to their own joy and to creating a relationship which truly supports that.

I am not taking a purely theoretical approach but will instead build what I have learnt about healthy partnerships into processes focussed on the real-life gifts and challenges of the relationships in the room. Garrick and I will also share our own experiences of partnership and what we are discovering about being separately together.

This workshop will require honesty, courage and commitment, and will therefore deliver life-changing results. It is not specifically intended for relationships in trouble, but rather for couples who value their partnership enough to want to work on and deepen it.

Follow-up support after the workshop will be available.

If you are brave enough to fully see and listen to your own body, compassionate enough to accept the bodies of others and wild enough to fall unconditionally in love with your physicality – forever - then I invite you to Embody.

More than half of the places on this workshop have been booked as of April 2009 so please reserve your spot with your 25% deposit.

At the same time as Embody, Sue Fuller-Good and Ellis Levin are offering a workshop in the bush at Boondocks called Brilliant Freedom.

Brilliant Freedom is a workshop that works on the physical side of you to bring harmony in your body, soul and mind.  It takes place on a glorious game farm, Boondocks and uses connection with nature, wild animals and being one with the earth to assist facilitator and healer Sue Fuller-Good to help you to break through any physical or mental limitations to a place of total confidence and trust in yourself and your body. Sue Fuller-Good is a physiotherapist and has a deep understanding of the body and of the energy system. She will coach you and coax you as you break through the prison bars of your self held beliefs about your body and what you can do with it.

This workshop will enable you to have a wilderness adventure (sleeping under the stars on the land and eating food prepared by your own hands far from the comfort of a kitchen) with facilitation and support. It is a spiritual journey which involves a lot of one on one coaching as well as healing. It takes advantage of the power of group learning as well and because it is experiential it will create cellular shifting and not intellectual learning. In addition to the physical challenges and excitement and Sue’s constant coaching, you will have assistance and input from Angela Deutschmann, who offers insight and teaching obtained from her channelled readings and coaching. Sue and Angela have worked together before with awesome results, each coming from their own very different perspective to create a fusion of understanding. On top of this, flying instructor, stunt pilot and extreme sports man Ellis Levin will be there to encourage you and share his expertise with you. He will draw on his life experience in walking through his own fears as he gently guides you to walk through yours. This team and this setting will provide the ideal space for you to break through and find joy in your physicality. Don’t hesitate to book your place on this life changing journey.

To Book contact Lila on +2711 463 0229 or email. The workshop is restricted to 12 people and already has some attendants so please book soon. 25% deposit secures your booking.
